Roulette history dates back to the seventeenth century when a French mathematician named Blaise Pascal invented the early version. The French translation of Roulette is “Little Wheel” so it is probably safe to say that Roulette did originate in France. Louis and Francois Blanc created another version of Roulette in 1842. This version of Roulette introduced the game using a single zero. During that time, gambling was illegal in France therefore; the game was launched in Hamburg, Germany.
Francois Blanc brought this version of Roulette to Monte Carlo and established the first Monte Carlo casino. An old folklore suggests that Francois made a deal with the devil to learn the secrets of the Roulette wheel. The sum of adding all the numbers on the wheel (1-36) will give you the number of the beast.
Roulette did not make its way to the United States until the early nineteenth century. It was during this period that the double zero was added to the wheel to increase the house odds. The allure and excitement of Roulette spanned to many parts of the United States and Europe, making it one of the most popular casino games available.
Roulette is a game quite easy to play. Select a number or numbers between 1-36, 0 and 00 then place a bet. There are several different betting options on the table and multiple bets are allowed. Once the wagers are placed, the dealer will spin the wheel. Once the wheel stops spinning, the ball will nestle into a slot. If you have a bet placed on that number, you win!
